Winter Hair Tips
Winter Hair Tips
Baby it's cold outside! The days are short and the self-care can start going out the window with holiday activities, family time, deadlines and everything else we are holding together. Here are a few ways to keep your hair healthy this winter!
1.Color your hair with AF.
Yes... really! Every time you color your hair with Arctic Fox it's like doing a hair mask and your hair needs all the conditioning it can get in the winter. So color your hair a bit sooner than normal and get additional moisturizing goodness AND vivid color!
Just like weekly face masks are great for healthy skin, weekly hair masks can be a game changer when it comes to dry, damaged hair. Don't get mad at me - it's science!
2.Use a lower water temp when you shower.
You know this one but hot water can zap moisture from your hair which can make it more prone to breakage. Not only that, but hot water fades your shades. Washing with cold water in the winter is not fun but even if you shower in hot water, and wash your hair in lukewarm water, you'll be doing your hair a huge favor.
3. Experiment with heat-free styling.
This helps keep your hair healthy. If you've been on TikTok you've probably seen tons of girls using socks and hair ties as curlers to get gorgeous curls overnight! Showering at night can give you more time and options with styling and cut down on frizz. In the colder months, heat styling amplifies fragility of strands and sucks the moisture out. Do some searching and explore new ways to twist, braid and bun your tresses!
4. Don't go out with wet hair in the cold.
We know that we just said that heat styling can damage hair, but wet hair in cold temps can actually cause hair to freeze and break! So even though heat-styling isn't ideal, it's preferable to wet hair during the winter! Changing up your routine can be difficult but if your current routine doesn't allow you enough time to get out of the house with fully dry hair - get up a bit earlier! Just 15 extra minutes can be the self-care your hair needs.
5. Don't over-wash your hair!
If you're someone who loves to wash their hair daily, consider changing your habits. Washing hair strips it of natural protective oils that keep it healthy and protected! Plus washing fades color faster than anything (except perhaps swimming). No need to go a crazy long time in between washes but grab a dry shampoo and start with washing hair every other day. See how it goes! Dry shampoo opens up the hair shaft and revives volume - while preventing it from appearing oily.
6. Stay hydrated!
If you're dehydrated on the inside it can absolutely affect the appearance and health of your hair. Drinking plenty of H20 keeps you, your scalp and your hair hydrated and gorgeous babe! In our office we are often so busy we forget to drink water and when one of us remembers we just shout out "time for a drink of water!". Bottom line... quench your thirst: quench your hair.
