Hi, Fox Fam! We’re back with another Color Spotlight for you, and this time we’re looking at our darkest green hue, Phantom Green! This verdant shade can be used in tons of mixes, or is gorgeous on its own. Read on for some of our best tips on making the most of this deep jewel tone!
Phantom Green is one of our darkest shades as a deep forest green. It has a strong blue undertone, so it will often fade in more of a teal or blue range over time (more on that later). This dark, highly pigmented color is perfect for giving subtle tints of green to unbleached hair, but like all AF shades, it will turn out most vibrantly on pre-lightened hair! Whether you want to feel like Gaia herself, or if you’re aiming for some deep-sea mermaid vibes, Phantom Green is our top pick for getting more in tune with nature.
Want some Phantom Green mixes in your life? While this deep shade is fairly dark, if you’re looking for the deepest hue of green, that can be easily achieved by adding a few drops of Transylvania or even Blue Jean Baby! Mix a little bit of Aquamarine into a base of Phantom Green to get a rich emerald gem tone, or use a more half-and-half mix of these shades for a oceanic teal. Need a medium green that’s not quite as grass-toned as Iris Green? Add a bit to Cosmic Sunshine for a green that’s a bit more smoky than Iris Green, but lighter than Phantom Green!

Concerned about a green fade? Phantom Green has a deep blue undertone so it typically fades much more blue overall, but if you’re not feeling the fade it’s easy to color correct with our hero Purple AF. Purple AF in particular covers up a faded Phantom Green easily, and fades in a more neutral range that makes it a perfect transition shade to get to warmer tones. If you dislike the blue fade and prefer a greener base (meaning it will fade less blue overall) you can mix a bit of a yellow like Cosmic Sunshine or Neon Moon into your mix. No matter what hair color you’re wanting to do next, following the color wheel is the simplest, safest method to get to your desired color.
